You"re all missing the point sadly. The basis of the original observation was that not only would you have to be very old to remember the facility in question, but that it was sited at the bottom of a large ditch left over from when the ground was a clay pit and the women had to abseil down in order to reach it. It wasn't so much a reflection of social mobility and differing acceptable standards as a highlight of the number of women who attended in those days. Far too many girls rock up these days which is why we've got diagonally-striped shirts. There's also a lack of Brylcreme which in my opinion should be compulsory. It is amazing just how football has moved on actually. I remember taking a former girlfriend to Palace vs Brighton years ago (can't remember when exactly) as I thought that might be at least somewhere in the region of atmospheres at your average Greek game (she was Greek) She pointed at the weed in the stands and said to me 'are they the guests?'. I said, 'Don't call them that'. That relationship didn't last long. Edited by Nicholas91 (18 Mar 2022 3.52pm)

But surely we are in a diffetent age now? Female supporters have assumed equal status, in some cases have a rudimentary knowledge of the game, unlike chaps who know everything about it, and have brought a much-needed distaff to the design of the kit. We now have a fetching array of matching under-kit, and diagonal stripes to replace black shorts and white shirts with a claret and blue hoop which was good enough for Johnnie Byrne so it's good enough for me quite frankly! Admittedly I haven't been to a game since 1963 but I'm sure little else has changed. Up the Glaziers!
