I’m going to give Steve Lovell a shout.

He played as a forward in our two FA Cup Youth winning teams but pretty sure Alisson tried him as a full-back. Think he got hooked in one game after 20 minutes for not trying and that might have been his last game for the club

I think, if my old memory serves me right he was playing in midfield when he scored the winner at Wrexham. He ended up playing back up front for Gillingham and scored s*** loads of goals

Phil Barber gets my vote. Sometimes looked very good, sometimes pretty crap, and he wasn't quite good enough for the top division, but he contributed enormously in the first few years of Steve Coppell's Palace, and no-one could ever fault him for effort.

Probably too recent for Nostalgia and too obvious to be "lesser mentioned", but what a cracking player Jimmy Mac has been over the past few years, and totally unrecognised by fans of other teams.

Steve Lovell appointed manager of Ramsgate for 22/3 after being there for the last few games of 21/2

Steve Lovell appointed manager of Isthmian League side Herne Bay. Assisted by his son...

Tony Taylor, an unsung hero, nearly 200 games
John Loughlan, very under rated

I would say:

Martin Hinshelwood - knit together the Fedora team, a player you didn't notice until he wasn't there. His absence was the single biggest reason we never got going vs. Southampton in the '76 FA Cup Semi Final.

John Humphrey - never popular because of the Charlton thing (we got him more or less in lieu of the rent), but what a solid player.

Pembo - should be mentioned more, considering the famous commentary clip. A character as well.

Dave Madden - Coppell never really fancied him, which is a pity because the lad could spray the ball around.

John McCormick - the man was built of absolute granite. Week in, week out during those four years he never gave less than 100%. Blyth was the flash and style in that centre back partnership but McCormick was the substance.

Rachid - he is mentioned (at least by everyone who was lucky enough to see him) but not by many who didn't. An absolute one-off. When he got the ball, you had absolutely no idea what he'd do next but it was always outrageous. Some of the time, it was outrageously awful but some of the time he did things it would never even occur to other players to try. And when they came off...unforgettable.

From memory, there was a reason for that, which involved Mr Madden spraying rather more than the ball around, in a direction which rather upset Mr Coppell.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

He’s here; he’s there, he’s every fkin where Roger Hoy, Roger Hoy.

Hard as nails and a super long range goal at Stamford Bridge.

Didn't he become a vicar in Australia?

I really don’t know. But that would be supremely ironic!

The late, lamented Darren Pitcher. Not the most skilful but at times when you needed a thug in the midfield, he was your boy.

Also Claude Davis, for whom the word 'agricultural' was invented.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
