Egbo is just another example of the realities of the step up from promising youngster to top flight first team regular. Every season a proportion of the fanbase clamour that surely the bright prospect (Insert name here) should be playing (This season it seems to be Rak-Sakyi). Egbo, Kaikai and does anyone remembewr all the hype around Reise Allassani? Look where he is now. He was an England U16's star. I can understand why, it's just the idea of a young player coming up through the ranks and becoming a star player for the club pulls on the heart strings, yet the reality and frequency of this is extremely unlikely. The only case I can really say has done this in my 30 years of supporting Palace is Zaha.

We do seem to keep them for too long though. Sam Wood was almost 23 when we released him. Surely a decision could have been made earlier. Clearly some players have injuries and/or have late development but in Inniss's case he was massive at 18. We had a young reserve goalie a few years back - at 21 he was loaned to a Conference South side. Surely that should have been happening a few years earlier to toughen him her.

Goalkeepers and Centre Backs are known to generally mature at a greater age than say a winger. That may have something to do with it.

Both Egbo and Jonny Wiliams are out of contract at Swindon - it will be interesting to see what happens. Interestingly there are quite a lot of other ex Palace youngsters out of contract with their lower league clubs - it can be quite ruthless at that level, with clubs often only offering 1 year contracts. Also notice ex Palace target Michael Hector, who had verbally agreed to join Palace before opting for Chelsea (where he never kicked a ball) has been released by Fulham after again barely kicking a ball over the last 2 seasons.

Gone to Charlton. It's amazing how many players I have read about on here or heard elsewhere that are supposed to be the next big thing until you randomly hear of them in the most inglorious of contexts.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I'm expecting Johnny Williams to rejoin Charlton now that Ben Garner is manager there
