People seem not to understand that Abramovish didn't throw any money away on Chelsea. None. Abramovich's money was plundered from the Russian state/people, and done dependent on the largesse of the Russian President (Putin). Using that money to sportswash Russia's international reputation and standing was an investment in Russia, not in Chelsea, and was anything but throwing away cash. Look at it like this: see Chelsea as a giant TV Station with a global audience that Russia bought so it had a platform via which to advertise itself and polish its international reputation. All companies spend money on doing that. It's not a "throw away". And Russia used Chelsea very effectively indeed to achieve that end. They got far more impact and benefit from owning and investing in Chelsea than they'd have ever got from advertising in any other medium.

The proof of how effective the strategy was? Well, despite everything we now understand about Russian money, Chelsea supporters are still singing Abramovich's name. That tells you all you need to know about a). how easy it is to pull the wool over people's eyes, and b). why sports teams are so attractive to dubious foreign investors. No questions are asked. The plain truth is that the hearts of football supporters are for sale to the highest bidder, as long as he's bidding on their club.

You do come across as excessively sanctimonious in a lot of your posts. Of course people on here know the money has been stolen from the Russian people. He didn’t just magic it out of thin air. He still wasted it presumably because he is of that mentality. Belittling others with your opening statement for not knowing stuff that is blatantly obvious is very harsh and unnecessary.

There is no proof it won’t be either. How many billionaires are there who want to squander money because I don’t see too many football teams making profits.

Indeed, but there doesn't seem to be a shortage of billionaires who want to buy Premier League teams, knowing they will lose vast sums of money does there so you've answered your own question. Man City, Everton, Newcastle, Chelsea, Leicester to name a few. And I'm pretty sure if the p*** barons sell West Ham, they'll have no shortage of cash-rich bidders either. For one thing, as I said in my first post, the billionaires don't see the financial loss involved in owning a PL cub as "squandering money". That's what sportswashing is. Taking an operating loss in exchange for reputational gain.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

I'd like to think you are right, however Newcastle can outbid any transfer fee and wages we could offer. They can also promise that he will not be the only marque signing as they have a project.

What really bothers me is that Newcastle come in for PV, I hope not. I can swallow him going to Arsenal or City because they are bigger clubs and he has the connection, but Newcastle!

Me too but with Arsenal. I generally cant stand gooners but I keep finding myself wanting Arteta to do well because should his tenure go tits up we all know who the hot favourite to take over will be.

Sadly I agree with others that the Chelsea situation makes it even more certain that he will return to his home club this summer. But lets not give up hope!.
Imagine him scoring the winning goal in the FA cup final for us. The wild celebrations, cavorting in the bath with the crystals, the emotion, the adulation.
You know its true Connor it (could be) red and blue

There is deal to be done, especially if CG does want to stay and cash flow at SB can be helped. Mr Parish is one smart cookie, it needs his creativity (and a dollop of SB desperation) to make it so.

I know footballers are professionals and Conor demonstrates that to us week in week out however he and his family are dyed in the wool Chelsea supporters and it must be his dream and his family’s for him to play in their first team. I think we only have a chance if he really can’t play for them….. and it’s anyones guess what will happen at Chelsea now.

I think that's a very fair and valid opinion.

My best hopes for him are either he wants to stay at Chelsea but they cannot accommodate him, he moves on, and sees Palace as a viable and preferable option.

Or, whatever happens in West London, it is agreed by all parties that perhaps a second season on loan with us would be a very reasonable option as he won't be immediately guaranteed his place at Chelsea, will be here where he is supposedly happy/comfortable and Chelsea get to retain him as a player. Big 'ifs' however.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Dare to dream, of course, but being realistic his performance against Man City alone showed he's an outstanding footballer who can compete against the best.

Seeing as he'll be on relatively modest money, he and his family are Chelsea through and through and the fact they'll presumably be looking to offload top earners, I genuinely can't see any scenario where he doesn't go back at the end of the season.

IF I'm wrong and Chelsea are willing to sell, it would be for 80m+ and rightly clubs like Utd, Arsenal etc would wade in with the big bucks.
