I am convinced that Edouard is the answer if only:

1. He is given a decent run
2. Stays in the middle
3. Olise keeps at the good crosses
4. Our midfield becomes creative

that last is the key and we need to find a latter day Eriksen/Bannon/Cabaye/Michael Hughes-type player which, unfortunately, we haven't got.

Had we one then I guess Mateta would do equally well. Neither Ayew or Benteke are good enough to fulfil this role now.

Agreed. Oh for another Cabaye.

Vierra got the tactics vs. Chelsea spot on and we were unlucky not to come away with 3 points let alone 1 point

With respect, if we lose when the manager gets the tactics 'spot on', it's going to be messy when he doesn't. Difficult to see how we were 'unlucky' not to come away with three points when we didn't register a single shot on target. The manager's name is VIEIRA.

The principle of this post is sound. My choice Edouard but like others would consider another.
Players around need to know where the man is or likely to be. Understandings need to develop on the field as well as in training. The manager should know from training which combos work.
Give him 6 games or so.

Were you at the game? I'd say he got that tactics right. Bar some wasteful finishing we should have won it.

Not sure how PV can tactically get Wilf to hit the target

Or Olise or Schlupp etc. As I said in an earlier post, the tactics against Chelsea were a one-off to try and stifle their style. I was at the game and I thought we played a decent game against them. My only quibble was that IMO, Vieira didn't respond to the Chelsea substitutions early enough.

The other side of the argument here is that players need to be aware that if they are not performing then there is competition for their place.

Leaving aside the Chelsea game, in which Zaha's selection was clearly a tactical one, we have three players in contention for one place. Edouard, Mateta and Benteke.

I think Edouard has done well in patches. He always looks confident and positive. But something of a ' nearly man ' about him - doesn't yet have the guile required at this level.

Mateta has improved but I'm still unconvinced and I'm surprised that we saw enough in him to sign him permanently.

Benteke now seems further down the pecking order than he was so I can't think of a reason for him to be trusted so be a regular starter.

It's all very well saying stick with a player and give him a run in the team come what may but then you ignore the fact that when things aren't going your way in a game, you need to change things up. Or, as we have seen, make a selection for tactical reasons.

At least we haven't spent £97m on a player that's firing blanks !

You mentioned that you are not convinced by Mateta nor it would seem Eduoard and Benteke and perhaps Vieira is of similar mind.

Everton put their faith in Calvert-Lewin, W.Ham in Antonio, Brentford in Toney,Southampton in Adams and Broja etc etc but I am starting to believe that perhaps our manager finds our central strikers wanting.

Exactly right.

Chelsea had a specific team selection to combat their threat.

Against Watford, I'd hope PV puts out a team to hurt them, vs trying to combat them.
