Whilst I appreciate its a very different era & the circumstances are not the same but during the Falkland's crisis Spurs had a couple of very talented Argentinians playing for them.

Just on the Falklands - I was selling foodstuffs for a fairly well known company at the time it kicked off, sitting in the buyers office of a busy London cash & carry when the Fray-Bentos rep arrived, the buyer (full credit to him) immediately said to the fray bentos rep, right, everything on your stock list that comes from Argentine is deleted ( we wont be buying any more) & I want you to uplift anything left on the shelves / in the warehouse. The fray bentos guy left in silence.

Nice gesture. But isn't Fray Bentos from Uruguay? Originally posted by Dubai Eagle

Correct. The brand was originally named after a port in Uruguay. In 1982, at the time of the Falklands War, the company was owned by Brooke Bond. Masses of Fray Bentos supplies were shipped to Allied troops in Europe during WW2, and troops fighting in North Africa named it Desert Chicken. So maybe the Fray Bentos guy walked out of the store in bafflement at why his stuff was being singled out. Edited by peterg (02 Mar 2022 6.19pm)
