Interesting pic. Shows it's age because only one bloke in a replica shirt and at least three wearing ties. Not many wear a tie to a football match these days.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I am in that pic & i'm also wearing a tie, there is another HOLer in the pic(that i know of). You're quite right bout that, tho i think that replica shirts were usually worn for sat/sun matches & not normally mid-week bearing in mind people had just come from work.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Not as many wear ties to work these days, or even leave home for office work, (which, as someone just said, is why there’s people wearing them after work)

Yep I'm in that pic as well... In fact I think we had this discussion last year in a identical thread!! I'm in the yellow Palace shirt and black jack 3 rows back... I'm politely thumbing towards the tunnel telling Cantona to go and have an early bath....
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

Its almost forgotten that the reason he was walking down the touchline is he was sent off for a scandalous assault on Richard Shaw I was in the Whitehorse end. As I remember, Cantona kicked Shaw; Alan Wilkie, ref, had missed it but turned his head as he realised something had happened. The ball went up the pitch and came back when Cantona kicked Shaw again. This time Wilkie saw it and sent him off.

If I remember right, dicky shaw was doing a great job of man to man marking him and had been snapping away at cantona all night, hence cantona finally losing the plot and kicking out

NSC have a thread where they celebrate Cantona day every year. They claim Paul Nixon’s death had nothing to do with the incident. Edited by Spiderman (26 Jan 2022 3.17pm)
