But how do they recycle them and at what cost. Either deep, massive, open cast mines (S America) which scar the land and spoil it for ever or Africa, where it is a prime source of child labour - where even 4 year olds are put to work.

As an aside.... I remember discussions a few years ago about the need to give an EV an artificial engine noise in order to alert pedestrians and cyclists to their approach. As someone who lives on a main road, I was gutted at the prospect of a potential peaceful future being dashed. But, as far as I'm aware, EVs are in fact pretty quiet, so I assume the artificial noise thing never came to pass. With ECE regulation 138, approved with EU regulation 1576 the artificial sound has been compulsory since July 1st 2021.

The problem I have with Electric Vehicles, is they are bandied about as the saviour Of the planet, but they Are not worth the hassle. The Range issues and recharging times are still a major issue, and are far from practical for all people. The environment argument is only applicable when this country is run on renewable energy, or else the electricity is created by burning fossil fuels/nuclear power, which Are hardly good for the enironment. Then there's the batteries - the production issues were touched on by somewhere else, but what then happens to all the dead/outdated batteries that need disposing of? Is there a plan, can they even be recycled, or are tey just going to go into one big Acidic dump somewhere? I just can't see the benefit of owning one. Hybrid maybe, so you generate your own power, and use minimal fuel, that kinda makes sense. but I'll stick to petrol/diesel until I'm forced out of it.

Even Her Maj' is getting on-board the electric craze. "THE Queen has taken delivery of a £62,000 golf buggy to help her get around. The gizmo-packed four-seater comes with all-weather covers, fridge and infotainment screen." (The Sun)
