I didn't have a problem with PV by all accounts a nice man. We were right to sack him though and that is the risk of being a manager. I do have a problem with how the media treated him and Palace which was not his fault. You would have thought we had shot Bambi's mother, funny that those pundits don't react that way when others get the dreaded phone call from the chairman.

But I still really enjoyed the cup runs. Games under those two have stuck out in my memory more than any hodgson games unfortunately. *I am talking about the last 10ish years Edited by eaglesdare (21 Jul 2024 11.40am)

Apropos Pardew he was 'Shown the door' after 17 League games when we were in 17th place on 15 pts.We were victorious in only 2 of his previous 12 PL matches.

Here's hoping Glasner does not meet a similar fate. Or at least go one step further and win a cup before it eventually goes tits up. In the end it always ends the same. But it's the good memories before this makes me remember them fondly.

it's not simply if managers are good or bad - often they are good for a limited time, often one season or eighteen months, then it goes wrong. This has happened to us with Dowie and Pardew, Roy Keane was amazing at Sunderland before it came apart, this short-term repair job tendency is probably why Watford recruit managers the way they do. Vieira was great with us for the first season - then like with Nice and in the MLS he got stuck, became over complicated, confused the players and then lost them. I was up at the Villa where we lost 1-0 and Parrish lost his patience - wrong tactics which were changed after 10 minutes , 3 double substitutions in the second half, Eze not picked because he was ineffective off the ball and loads of individual errors as a result of the confusion. Vieira is good up to a point, he may need to drop down a league or two and learn how to progress the team after he has done the initial repair job, or take yet more advice from Arsene Wenger - if he is given a chance somewhere to get through that awkward patch then he should make the grade, but his delegation with his coaching staff may also need to improve.

Wouldn't it likely have been Vieira who suggested Mateta?

No it was Parish and Freedman. Roy was manager at the time and was not impressed. He dropped JP to the bench after he scored against Brighton in his third match and did not give him any more EPL starts until Edouard was unavailable against Man Utd last September.
