In the final analysis, it was Butland who presented the opportunity to Afobe to score so of course he is culpable, however he was faced with a situation whereby TWO Millwall players closed him down without any of his teammates near him. I totally understand this playing out from the back and beating the press etc etc and the thinking of Andersen based on this philosophy, however Afobe was allowed to run free into the box at a time when another Millwall player was advancing on Butland to close him down. The player who had a free run eventually scored. I think we will have to agree to disagree, I don't wish to add any more on this subject. Edited by Willo (11 Jan 2022 11.49am) I have to disagree with that. Look at freeze frame of the incident. There are two defenders available to pass to. But maybe he wasn't looking up to see them.

Edited by Willo (11 Jan 2022 11.49am) The underlying thing you're suggesting is that defenders should be man-marking the opposition when we are in possession - it fundamentally doesn't make sense. it is not a difference of opinion or perspective; central defenders are not expected to mark an attacker while their own keeper is in possession - that is a fact.

I totally understand but there are exceptions based on circumstances. This really is my final word on this matter !

It was a basic mistake for Butland, he had two very simple options. One was just hit it hard out. The other was pass it back to the defender that gave it to him who was not marked as well as he was. As he chose to turn he did have two other options in front of him, but only if his ball control was on, because the two Millwall lads had pretty well closed him down, and it wasn’t . He shouldn’t have been expected to play out of that situation , he is not a ball playing out field player, if in doubt put it out, the old adages usually are pretty sound.

Yes, it will depend on tv scheduling along with input from the police and other authorities. None of the fourth round games have been confirmed yet but we should expect an announcement soon as the draw was four days ago and you’d imagine they would be meeting this week.

Why wouldn’t we have black fans?? You really think Millwall games are like one big KKK meeting? Just because the knee gets booed (I don’t boo, for the record) doesn’t mean that everyone booing is a racist. A lot of people just don’t like BLM and the fact that they smashed up and defaced THEIR city a couple of summers ago. They find them divisive, and feel they cause more problems than they solve. That’s their opinion and they’ve a right to it. Doesn’t make them all racist. We’ve got plenty of black fans and we, us snarling racists, have voted black players as our player of the season on numerous occasions. There are lots black people who are seen as Millwall legends, both on and off the pitch, down The Den and held in very high regard down there. “Amazingly they have some black fans too” 😂 …. Clown You say Millwall aren't racist but it's the only club where the players are to scared to take the knee. When you say you have plenty of black fans it is clearly a tiny minority especially in a part of London where 50% of the population are black. We all know Millwall mainly attracts white males with a predisposition for aggression and intolerance from across the south east down into Kent. One point I do agree with you on is that it's rich us lot complaining about homophobic chants...
