I say reverse it. Put the wall ON the goal line. Then the 'keeper 10 yards away From the free kick taker trying to save it. Least he can use his hands.

Crazy Badger's idea seems interesting but risky. If the defending team adopted that strategy, what would be the response of the attacking team? Presumably, it would put players behind the keeper.

But wouldn't that just make it harder for the free kick taker to score direct? I reckon you'll concede a lot fewer goals from Direct free kick specialists doing it this way. The attacking team would have to revert to an indirect kick to pass round the keeper. then chaos will ensue! At the very Least it'll be a spectacle and make it's way into the ch5's funniest football moments.

Not a crazy badger at all - a very sensible one. Will you tell PV or shall I?

At first, I thought it was a great shot, but after watching it a few times, Butland really could have done better. I don't know if he could have saved it, but he could have had a better chance at saving it. The wall gets set up. Butland is standing in the middle of the goal. As the shot is being kicked, for some reason Butland jumps two feet to the right, exposing even more of the left side of the net. WP is aiming for the left side of the net all day long. The ball hits the wall to take some of the pace off it it. Butland suddenly realizes it's going to the left, jumps over and just barely gets his hand on it. The ball goes into the net about 3-4 feet away from the post. It was not in the upper corner. If Butland hadn't cheated to the right, I think he saves that shot. But, as someone said, the best thing is not to concede a free kick right at the top of the box, to a team that can only score on plays like that. Usually Luka gives away those fouls, this time it was Hughes. And yes, maybe it shouldn't have been called, but if it's that close, it's too close.

The ref awarded an indirect free kick near the penalty spot, so I put the wall on the goal line and stood in front of it. As soon as the ball was touched I rushed forward and managed to block the resulting shot. So, it can work for indirect free kicks, Badger. I wouldn't try it for a direct free kick though.
