Apparently dislocated his finger. Could be out for a while. Personally I have faith in Butland

A shame, if true. Butland used to be a very good keeper but he lost confidence. If he is back to anywhere near his best, he will be fine.

Not enough credit has been given to him for his brilliant save when it was 2-1 on Sunday.

great shot stopper, in the main. but his distribution is poor and he doesn't come for corners. one of the reasons we've been so rubbish at defending them. hope Butland has got over his mental block. coz he's quality

That save at 2-1 v Everton was superb - and credit also to Joel Ward for having the speed of mind to steer the rebound away from the oncoming forward. But back to the keeper - I'm a big fan. Touch wood, he seldom fluffs his lines. His agility and speed in getting down to low shots is particularly impressive (some less tidy keepers use their feet instead). Presumably a dislocated finger would keep him out at least until the New Year. I wonder if he should have been subbed on Sunday. Must have been a painful injury.

I saw him go over to the touchline on Sunday with his glove off... Can only assume the physio popped it back into place but as much as its instant relief when a popped out joint goes back into place its the damage to the ligaments, joint etc that causes the issues post match once adrenalin and movement stops. I would imagine at least 3-4 weeks out... I remember when Nigel Martyn broke his finger in the FA Cup semi final against Man Utd in 95. He carried on playing but I think he was out for the rest of the season, although there was only about 6 weeks of the season left Edited by kennybrowns leftfoot (14 Dec 2021 7.58pm)
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

He has his little & ring fingers taped together during matches & if you look at his gloves, they are designed for that. I've had dislocated fingers & all they do is tape it up to the next one. Not saying he should carry on & play, Butland is a capable deputy.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

If true we will be finally selecting a goalkeeper who can kick properly & hopefully command his area.

That may be when he did his finger as went over to the bench soon after for treatment on his hand.
