The era of career politicians is on the decline. There is far to many of them, if they can do two jobs, it's fairly obvious. A cull of 300 of them wouldn't go a miss, but it will never happen, as turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

Maybe I am just lucky but our local MP, Cherilyn Mackrory, seems a genuine hard-working constituency MP. She lives locally, understands the area and is accessible. She is also a Tory. She has been very supportive and helpful over a problem that my wife and I have with a branch of government. She answers emails swiftly, and often apparently personally, raising questions for us with the Department. So they aren't all bad.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Yeah, I for one wouldn"t lose any sleep with a cull, and the house of lords could do with a major slim down to, saving £300 plus expenses each "lord", each day, imagine!

Thats good Wisbech, the central Croydon labour mp Sarah Jones is also good, they can"t all be greedy cronies I guess!

After the 1922 cash for peerage scandal they passed a law making it illegal however only one person in 100 years has been prosecuted and that was back then, in other words it was all for show. Life peerages were introduced to make the Lord more democratic and yet surprise surprise the party leaders (not just government) found it a really useful way to reward colleagues sacked by the electorate or to get rid of others who were trouble makers. I fully expect they will tweak the rules around jobs and claim it is a major change just like the expenses scandal and then once the public lose interest, snouts back down into the trough.
