Not sure the much touted he took over a good team stands up to analysis in his first season. For 12 months under him Palace were indeed a very good team - that spell is by a distance the best Palace have performed in the Premier League. Also you're cherry picking on transfer business somewhat. He also bought Cabaye and Townsend no? Still two of the best bits of business we have pulled off in my time. Also prepared to cut him slack on Wickham who could indeed have been very good. Was he rubbish when the wheels fell off. Yes. I think this is a fair assessment. He bought Tomkins as well who has been good value overall IMO and a likeable player. The team he inherited was going down without a doubt and also Jedinak was showing serious signs of decline as a top flight player by the time he left. Never liked Pardew as a player, manager or bloke but there have been some high / good points.

I'd like to add Nuno to the list as one of the worst managers we've been fortunate enough to avoid. His negative tactics would have been unbearable to watch compared with the delights of Vieira's.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
