He's got the most passes into the final third and most carries into the final third of any central midfielder in England so far this season. Phenomenal player. Physically and technically he is amazing so they don't massively surprise me. I still don't think he controls games or sets the tempo. I remember looking into it at the Euros, he and Rice were less influential in our team than Veratti and Jorginio, Pogba and Kante, Tony Kroos and Ginter were. Based on the number of times they get the ball.

I think that's probably fair, but then you've named a few of the best midfielders of the last 5-10years - they are all much older and more experienced than Rice, so I think it's a tough barometer. He'll get there.

Italy had won something like 30 games in a row and had to take us to penalties. Not too worried about the Hungary game. They got a fortunate penalty, incidents like that are generally how big teams drop points from time to time. We should have kept Greelish on though. I thought the rest of the team were too respectful to the opposition, we regularly treat Championship quality international teams like top class European teams. We need to take more risks against poorer sides. I think that was true under previous managers, but we are regularily beating lesser opposition where previously we may have Faultered.

He'll get there. Maybe he will, maybe he wont. I guess all I'm saying is its about the right pairings. Pogba looked immense for France, but that's because of who he was playing with. Stick Rice with someone who does that job and they will work perfectly.

I think the selection isn't as critical as the way we play. GS seems to favour the slow build up with the emphasis on possession. England should trust in what they're good at - fast pacy non-stop football, instead of trying to play the same as a lot of other national sides, who are better at that sort of game anyway.
