All this furore over Ronaldo taking the no. 7 shirt when it has already been registered to another player... correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't this happen already at Palace at the start of the 16/17 season?

First game of the season, at home to West Brom. Andros Townsend makes his debut, wearing the no.17. Yannick Bolasie comes on as a sub, wearing no.10.

Next game, away at Spurs, Bolasie has been sold to Everton and Andros starts again - this time wearing Bolasie's vacated no.10 shirt:

He goes on to wear that number for the remainder of the time at the club.

I can't recall this being commented on at the time - does anyone remember differently? Or think of any other examples?

Moanu had to give him a shirt with only one number as they found out too late previously that two numbers on the back was giving him balance problems.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

I always thought it was a provisional squad untill after the transfer window closes anyway and numbers didn't matter, how can you register a player you've not signed ? Just thought clubs tried keeping players on the same number so they could sell shirts. Doesn't make sense having to submit squad numbers before the transfer window.

Therein lies the difference. The no 10 shirt became available for Townsend once Bolasie left the club, whereas Cavani is still at Man U and has had to change from no.7 so as to allow Ronaldo to have it. So no, we weren't the first to do it.

This was the crux of the issue, having to get a current player to vacate a shirt

It's all just part of the ridiculous hype, and we've been conned by even going along with it. Who gives a sh1t what number some Man U tw4t wears? Except for all their 'hardcore' fans. The ones who've never left London, never been to Manchester, or been to any football match whatsoever.
