I think Steve Kember was our ' star ' player in the '69 promotion winning team.

As our biggest asset, it was Kember that then got sold to Chelsea.

I don't wish to presume some judicial authority in these matters, but yes Kember was bought by Chelsea bcos he was our 'star' - he wud not qualify on his second spell even though he did a great job, he was cover for Peter Nicholas in 79/80 making way for Gerry Francis, he's probably got at least as much right to be considered a star as Andrew Johnson.

Cliff Holton and Peter Burridge were our star players around 1963/64/65, and scored a lot of goals. They are two to consider along with Bobby Kellard

I can’t remember much of what he actually did but Alan Birchenall seemed like a star when we signed him.
Nigel Martyn had star quality.

Very much agreed on Nigel Martyn. Second place to Wright of course for the time they coincided but he was surely our star turn when he left.

An off the wall suggestion would be Fan Zhiyi - played for us when we were at near our worst but was a class above everything else - genuine international quality player burdened by not being an attacker which is the almost inevitable drawback to lists of this sort. I'd have him ahead of Lombardo for example who was much more transient with us.
