Super Ape is a classic,he produced the Heart of the Congos album by the Congos,Hurt so good by Susan Codugen,Son of Slaves by Junior Delgado, and of course Soul Rebel,Caution,Small axe etc by Bob Marley and the Wailers and many many more.

He also had a very distinctive sound.

You know when your listening to a Scratch production.

He had a very playful style. Some of the Jamaican dreads of the Seventies took themselves far too seriously but Perry always had a sense of humour.

He was also obsessed with spaghetti westerns - The Return of Django being a prime example.

I'm no expert, but I used to like a bit of Scientist back in the day.
Dub Landing was my favourite album of his.

I couldn't possibly comment.

I don't remember the '80s, and I'm sticking to that story.

I confess I'd never even heard of Perry till this thread popped up, but I have made a point of listening to some of his work on Spotify. And I can see the attraction, but not for me these days.

I used to love dancing around to Ska music at parties and Under The Olive Tree in South Croydon in the 60s. Give me a good bash of Skatelites any day. I've got Guns Of Naverone on my jukebox.

Anyway, Perry had quite a following so RIP old chap.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Played this last night as my tribute. Masterpiece of an album.
