Raab is turning into the Hancock of the Foreign Office. Johnson's choice of senior ministers, with the exception of Shunak is poor IMHO. Not sure how deep the talent pool is. Penny Morduant is very good, perhaps she could do Defence and move the excellent Ben Wallace to the FO.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Bojo will NOT sack a Minister who has proven his loyalty re: Brexit whilst also knowing far too much about the PM's colourful personal background. Like Priti Patel and esp. Gavin Williamson (former Chief Whip), all of these dreadfully inept Cabinet Ministers are being awarded for standing by The Clown's personal crusade to get the big job (otherwise known as delivering Brexiyt...but ignoring the small print / crucial detail). The likes of Williamson have already made it clear to colleagues that he has the bargaining chip of knowing where the bodies are buried...and will only consider a move to another Cabinet position rather than being cast out into the political wilderness where he deserves to be. Raab can go back on his beach holiday knowing full well that he has Bojo wrapped round his finger.

Didn't work for Hancock so don't buy into that premise too much

I remember having the impression that Raab was a career politician, but a conservative one who was trapped in a liberal conservative party. I've no idea if my impression was correct....and I must admit, I don't really follow internal politics that much anymore...They all just seem different shades of nuttery. Would a phone call from Raab have made any difference? I doubt it.

Bojo's judgement came under severe scrutiny post Hancock resignation yet repeated PM behaviour on display of attempting to brush all scandals under the carpet with mantra that a week is a long time in politics - basically the half-arsed electorate will quickly forget. Today's dead cat strategy of Liz Truss appointing Ian Botham as The Govt's choice of trade envoy to Australia is a way of keeping Afghanistan; Covid etc off the front pages.
