We were well beaten. Chelsea clearly wanting to make a statement in this game and were certainly not still on the beach as we use to say in the past.
Disappointing thing was that nothing much has changed in the lack of chances we created ( only 1 i remember that Zouma blocking off Wilf's shot) Defensively we are still narrow so there was space out wide and Chelsea took advantage for most of the game. The transition from defence to attack was a big issue with Ayew ( who seemed to be the outlet getting closed down by multiple players )
Only slight cause for optomism was Anderson's distributon when he first came on. Good to see some quality long balls hit early. Of course Chelsea put a stop to this very quickly.

We weren't terrible and tried hard. Guehi was on consistent and Mitchell too. Giving away too many free kicks was our undoing

Huge difference in quality. And those Chelsea players know how to buy fouls and Jon Moss was in the market all afternoon.

My only real issue was that we lack the likes of a Jedinak or Delayney to ruffle the opposition's feathers. We seem at bit too nice and easy to play against.

As PV said post match, he would like to have seen '' a little bit more competitiveness ''

Can't help thinking that Vierra is still building the team with other players surely to be signed up - only trouble is that the season has now started and that there will be fixtures that will need to count as 'must-wins', i.e, Brentford at home. At least we have the Champions of Europe at Stamford Bridge out of the way now.

Top strikers make those look easy. They aren't always.

My point being AA scores and many here cry, "oh we missed out on him, look he already scored". I am simply stating that his goal only happened by luck of a bad play where a defender gave the ball away.
We couldn’t get the ball up to a threatening area all day. He would have been ineffective yesterday. Just like rating JPM, how do you give marks at all when 30% of his time was in the opponents attacking 1/3 defending. I tire of the harshness of some players when as much as I loved what people like Roy have done in the past, he would park the bus and he saved our bacon many days but rarely played new blood.

We have a new manager and new tactics so they all should get a fresh start and seeing JPM appearing to not be what we hoped (although big strong and mildly slow is what I thought he was), people complaining that AA scoring a goal (on a ball that 99% of the time he would not have gotten is alarming). Yes he scored, he should have. We need to chill out and enjoy the ride knowing that somedays will be highs and some will be lows.
