Kelly doesn't look that comfortable on the ball to me and a couple of times seemed to want an age to get the ball under control before passing. He also seems to lack the aggression of a centre-back and gets out-muscled on set-pieces. Maybe I'm being harsh but I hope we don't have to use him this season. Of the two I actually thought O'Brien looked more composed, plus he carries a threat in the opposing box. If he could get a loan to a league one or championship club I think it'd serve him well.

That's how I've seen it. IMO Kelly is very much the last person we want to have to bring in at CB, especially under the PV system of playing.

Mark Bright was asked today when clubs would be coming in asking for loans. He suggested it would be in the last week of the window, so there's time for O'Brien and others to get a chance. However, Brighty went on to say that there was also the question of being strong enough in the U23 league we've just been promote4d to, so very much a balancing act.

Fair result tbf, they could've won it at the death, we could've won it 35sec later.

Agree with TBTP, Tekkers will start on Sat, Mateta, no where near PL standard(yet ish), Rak-Sakyi & Banks have to be in & around 1st team squad. Not Hannams best match today, but every player goes through that, still best option for back up to Mitchell.

CG will be an important player for us this season, Jmac cant do it all on his own, Luka a good back up. The future is bright, the future is young red n blue, albeit slightly twirly.

Would that have been "winning it at the resurrection"?

I'd expect Benetke to play at Chelsea, quite possibly from the start. Giving him minutes in this game suggests a ramping up of his prepreations, and more to the point Mateta hasn't convinced in pre-season.

Apart from his cheeky backheel goal against the weed Mateta hasn't really impressed since he arrived.

Mateta has hardly played. Give him a chance before writing him off.

Looks like Benteke will play in the same game as Lukaku at the weekend against Chelsea, both Belgian team mates.

Does his medical yesterday and plays Saturday whilst arriving from Italy ? Not sure about the Covid rules but if you travel to Italy I think you must self isolate there. With 8 cases in the PL last week, one being Jesse Lingard you do wonder where this is all going. Can see a fair amount of disruption within the season and cannot see AFCON in Cameroon in Jan taking place, which might be a blessing for us.

He was very much the same vs Charlton, where both him and tomkins looked terrible,

True, but his touch and ball control looks a bit wayward at times. Could be that he is rusty or lacking confidence, but could also be deficiency in his play.

The minutes he had played he's looked lost, his positioning and off the ball work are terrible, on Saturday he turned his back on and ran away from Mitchell, shocking.

So far it's looking like Guehi and (if fit and ready) Andersen will be our first choice CBs with Kouyate perhaps even getting ahead of Tomkins in the pecking order. No doubt in my mind that Kelly is bottom of the pile.
