Can't see it. I'd loved to be proved wrong, by the way. I like Messi. But until he delivers consistently a league that's better than League 1 standard...I'll always have my reservations. This is mental.

Just once, I would honestly love to see one of these big-name players or managers join an actual proper football club even if late in their careers. You know, just to experience what the real game is actually about, play in front of some supporters who aren't plastic, and show they're human beings rather than money vacuums. Not that it'll ever happen.

Whilst you often hear about how footballers careers are relatively short & how they have to maximise their earnings etc etc - if the press reports are correct Messi has been with Barca since he was 8 & whilst its clear that both parties have been good for each other in a relationship that has existed that long & been that successful I would have liked to see Messi say to Barca, OK pay me whatever you can afford within the guidelines rather than see him chased by PSG or Chelski or whoever. You have to feel sorry for Messi now even his beloved Barca can't afford to keep him. He agreed to cut his £78m salary in half too. How's an old bloke expected to scrape by on a mere £39m? But nevertheless he agreed to it. Now his club say that even that paltry salary is more than they can afford. Tough luck Lionel, maybe PSG will cough up.

I have just heard that, regrettably, Messi has decided to sign for PSG and not us. His loss. Move on to the next option. Mods please close thread.
