My next door neighbour's dog died last year and last week she posted on Facebook wishing it a happy heavenly birthday I'm not sure that it's irrational to love your pets. I certainly get that the religious aspect could be seen it that light but not the caring. Pets can be valued and much loved parts of any family, so their death is inevitably a very sad time for people.
