Bartley is a reliable , experienced central defender who is dominant in the air in both boxes.

Bartley is a good talker, organiser and a leader but he is 30 and last season was the first that he was a regular starter in the PL.

I wouldn’t necessarily see him as a starter but a valuable squad player.

While 3m isn’t a lot of money in today’s game, I just don’t see this being what we are looking for. The rumours about Nelsson seem closer to what we are likely looking for…I’d argue if Bartley was simply coming to sit on the bench then we’d be better off keeping Cahill or Dann.

A lot younger than Dann, who is finished in the Premier, no pace. Cahill is now to injury prone. Bartley a good squad player, you can’t get loads of youngsters in, you need some experience.

Sort of agree. But Cahill - who I'd keep anyway - is a very short term prospect and Dann is due a huge thank you and goodbye. Bartlett isn't a spring chicken but has a 3 year contract in him. Think it largely comes down to where PV sees Kouyate playing next season. If he's back in midfield then two senior CBs (Bartlett and Cahill) is the way I'd go. Tomkins is class but fragile. I see him as a no brainer at £3m. Solid squad player, experience of getting out of the Championship if that were ever to happen. Adds a bit of experience and easily has the legs for a 3 year contract. Does the role Dann did last year but better.
