Yes, I’ve been voicing similar concern for ages. He is improving but still not good enough. We need new fullbacks on both sides.

Yep, we really are the club to entice the sort of players you want to see aren't we, how exactly do we attract and then afford them? we operate at the moment and foreseeable by bringing on players just like our right back who is as you've written above improving.

Mitchell is a good defender who generally wins his 1 on 1s. He is young and still learning. I don't see a need for an upgrade, not given the resources we are likely to have in the summer. There are greater needs IMO, starting with getting our own box-to-box midfielder for next season.

I know this will be unpopular opinion with a lot of fans but I genuinely believe we need a new left back.

Mitchell is a decent defender and excellent 1 v 1 but he is shocking with the ball at his feet and it really holds us back in a lot of instances. The amount of times he miss places or over hits an easy pass is criminal.

In today’s game we need more than a decent defender.

More than decent young promising full backs, cost £20m plus for the finished article.
Why bother with the Academy of they get slated if there not world class.

We need cover in that position.

Ideally but not desperately given we have Jairo and Schlupp who have shown they can play there if needed. Obviously, if we lost Mitchell permanently or for the best part of a season then the situation changes but that would be the case with a number of positions.

His distribution was worse than usual yesterday so I'm not surprised this has been raised - he's made a few good forward contributions so far this season and seems to be improving.

The young Irish left back Tayo Adaramola is being talked about as one of the best prospects in the current academy team, so I'd imagine part of why we haven't signed anyone is trying to keep a path open for him - from what I've heard people are expecting big things of him.

Going to be a top class defender in time, as long as he remains with the club who can help him. AWB for example

He's only 22 and holding his own in a midtable prem side. Sure he's got some weaknesses but he's shown signs of improvement.

It will be good if the u23s left back can also push on and provide some competition for him. But at the moment I'm more than happy to give him time to develop as I think it's important for him and the academy/club.

He's developed well since he played his first game. He'll continue to improve and become a better all round attacking full back as is required today.

You only have to see or hear his interviews to realise he's still a humble, shy young kid who appreciates the chance he's been given. Give him a break.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

What, you mean Luke Shaw?

He will improve but my criticism is of his throw-ins.

I accept he is not helped by colleagues who are not getting into space but I can't remember when we last took the ball forward from a throw-in.

Ward is better but he also suffers from lack of 'space awareness'

I suppose improvements on our corners and free kicks must take priority but our throw-ins are abysmal.
