We just need to ensure we prepare effectively and assimilate any of our new citizens. Welcoming them, teac ofhing them and not ostracising them is what is required and is actually what is very effectively being done. Often quietly and without any fuss. The short term floods of refugees and/or economic migrants are a difficult and probably insolvable problem that can only be mitigated but never eradicated. It's not really a result of globalisation but more a consequence of wars and poverty. Some level of containment is the best we can hope for which demands a common approach and is another argument for us to have remained a member of the EU. The honest answer is I don't know the figures so would need to research but raw figures don't tell the whole story, do they? Every country's circumstances are different. Their history and location makes a difference. On top of that English is the second language of so many people, so we are a natural target. Japan has much more immigration than you might imagine. They are short of lower level workers and have been quietly accepting people for quite some time. I wouldn't have thought China has had a need but as their economy is growing so fast and the birth rate declining whether that remains true is unknown. The remark of mine that you highlighted was though about globalisation and not immigration, so I don't really see the direct link.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |
