The USSR did it by drugs and 'training' that was akin to slavery. China now has a Capitalist economy under a one-party dictatorship - bit like Nazi Germany.

Sir Bradley, and team sky spring to mind!

I realise the narrative of Russia being cheats and China kidnapping the kids and forcing them. However, when Communist parties ruled those countries, they had massive and expensive sports investments, coaching and infrastructure. I guess, in a way, you could wonder if totalitarian regimes are good for sports?
Interesting you mention Nazi Germany, of course Italy and they both owe even their current teams and relative success to their fascist leaders. They don't exactly highlight that fact, but there is plenty of historical research on it. Obviously, it seems Capitalism isn't necessarily the only way to have success at sports.
I don't really want to go into British Cycling, Lance Armstrong, Ben Johnson Irish medals and a million other drugs cheats before we get too hung up on who cheats at sports. I'm not saying Russia aren't cheats but their own narrative is actually along the lines of levelling the playing field. There is a modicum of truth in that.

Indeed! Read this after i replied to said poster, British cycling did come straight in to my head.

Point is, sport in the USSR and China was more a political weapon than sport. However, here and more so in the USA, it has become more a business than sport.

Funny, you are a devout capitalist, nothing wrong with that, but what i don"t understand is that you want to put barriers up in how much people can earn. The owners of the superleague clubs wanted to break away and earm mega bank, but you, a capitalist was against it. I would have thought you would say good luck to them, they are making bank and why ever not? For you to be against a businessman earning mega bucks does smell of hypocrisy my honourable member, how would you like someone to put a limit on your earnings? I sincerely feel, the member for Medway needs to stand in front of the house and explain, just how much he would like football club owners to earn each year? Explain how much is to much, and explain why has he a problem with club owners, capitalists to a man, making huge amounts of money for themselves, their families and their future generations, the member for Medway couldn"t be a tad jealous could he?

I am against the super league yes. Not because of earnings but the effect on others. There is a difference in clubs doubling the entrance fee to get more money; than totally upsetting the status quo to get richer. Whatever people earn or have isn't something I get worried about. Bottom right hand side of my payslip is important to me. I negotiated my salary. You've clearly tried to muddy the waters by using a totally different scenario. When did I have issues in what people earn? I have issues when the correct tax isn't paid but if someone works hard who am I to be jealous. They put the effort in so deserve their rewards. If your not careful you could wish for what's happening across the pond. NY,LA,CAL.
Mass exodus of big earners as tax the rich to pay the feckless, workshy ponces is happening. Who pays when no one is there to?

I know youre a grafter mate, its just who are we to stop 6 football club owners making more lovely shekles? That is capitalism at its finest, millions in one deal, yet it stirred up a hornets nest in the country, yet when your mates do it, its just business!Surely the 6 owners were only partaking in great business to? We aren"t commies mate, so who are we to moan about great business? (or not this time around).

Agreeing with capitalism doesn't mean root and Branch. I think you are labelling me as someone I'm not, or at least my thought on subjects. I beleive that generally you get out of life whether it's financially, emotional or spiritual a return for what you put in. It's not wrong to have objections to certain aspects of your beliefs. Who are these mates? Are you still on about the ppe; which I've already said was probably against protocols but saved lives and progressed our escape or hopefully progressed our escape from c19. Let go CP as you are getting eaten up by something that would or will never affect your life. Not one thing will be different because my 'mates' iyo looked after each other financially. You will still see street lights on and 999 will get you a response. Let it go for your own sanity!

So let me get this straight.
Capitalism is bad because contracts for equipment and goods and services to save lives during a deadly, highly contagious epidemic were given out without proper checks and balances. Which, and I think you will see I agree with; would be wrong at or for any other situation in time. Allied to the fact that once this s*** show is done there will be investigations root and branch; actually probably happening now BTW, into the companies and individuals who received said finance and contracts. Whereby if wrong doing is proved to have happened at whatever level I will strongly agree to any punishments meted out. Its not uber then?

The dishing out of ppe contracts by the CONservative gov wasn"t capitalism, socialism or communism, it was corruption, and cronyism. As for getting the billions back , good luck with that, the CONS have a great way of "smoothing over", such deals, you know that mate.Fcuk me, you are an early riser, or insomniac, always posting around 5 am, have these crooked CONservatives got the working skilled man, as you are mate, doing a paper round before work to make bank?
