damn fine keeper Tony Burns - exceptional shot stopper - South African, from Durban I believe ... I think Stuart Jump and Bobby Bell were both Sarth Effricans too.

Tony Burns certainly played in S.Africa but was born in this country and spent nearly all of his footballing career here at league and non-league level.

oh dear, it seems I was talking b*ll*x, not the first time nor will it be the last. At least two of them played in South Africa, it's either down to my ageing memory or Brian Moore getting his facts wrong.

Perhaps you had Gavin Nebbeling in mind, a South African whom we signed from Arcadia Shepherds.

Ben Anderson who played a handful of games in the early 70s played in South Africa as well. No idea why he came to mind!

I was also at that game. I certainly remember walking round the ground from Holmesdale which was where we always started. But only if we were playing towards Whitehorse in the second half. I distinctly recall Dad saying it was so we could see all our goals go in at close quarters.

Am I right in remembering that game was in late November or early December, and at the time Bury were top of the Division (and we were hot on their heels)? Maybe my mind's playing tricks on me, but I recall that was the case and in light of it, the 1-0 away win was significant.
