So are football refs in the EPL & most(not all) in the EFLCH. As for the rest of your post i totally agree.

Mic'd and can therefore be heard by supporters/TV channels is what I was getting at.

It gives a lot more context to what the referee is thinking, which players are being a nightmare and fully deserve to get called out for setting a bad example, and explains a way quite a few calls that may otherwise be contentious.

It's amazing the restraint that referees generally show considering what they have to put up with. I'm sure some would love to be able to deck some of the loud-mouthed upstarts they have to deal with.

Pleasing to read this morning that Darren Drysdale, the ref who prompted this thread by appearing to head butt a player, is free to officiate again. The FA backdated a ban which he has effectively served.

The player he booked for diving, Alan Judge, apparently became aggressive and shouted at him 'It’s a f***ing penalty you cheating bald c***!'

It's a wonder more refs don't retaliate when they get this kind of abuse for trying to see fair play in a football match.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

The player should be banned for the same amount of time as the ref - that would send out a message!

At some point in time disrespect started to be shown towards officials and has been largely unchecked since.

There's a collective responsibility for eliminating it from football but little evidence of anything being done about it.

It's now embedded from youth football upwards.

And of course it's the players at the top of the pyramid that display the worst behaviour.
