David Luiz should get a permanent red card. He's the dirtiest player (just in front of Mark Noble) in the league.

I've tried trawling the internet for a video of the challenge he made on Jake Reeves of Brentford a few years ago but can't find anything strangely. He should have been banned for life for it in my opinion.

Can't stand the dirty barsteward.

But that's not what this thread is about.

Could not agree less. He is a coward and hands out penalties for the slightest contact or did you think either of the pens yesterday was justified?

Is this becoming a thing now? I think I am right in saying Liverpool have removed an official from overseeing their games too, happy to be corrected if not.

Only my opinion but Michael Oliver is the only ref in the PL I have any faith in and if I were any club I'd request no other refs were involved in my club's matches.

I would love to see them sacked, or be held accountable for decisions but can't see it happening as I assume the refereeing in this country is so bad as a result of a lack of supply, so if they started sacking them what can we expect to see in terms of replacements?

Another twist for Prem Refs . . .

Be interesting when he dishes out his next red card

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

I thought they were both correct calls yes.

Wouldn't be given in a Sunday league game no but both yesterday were, by PL standards, pretty stonewall.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Well we clearly have different idea's about what is "stonewall". Imo neither is. Yes Fabinho leaves his leg trailing, stupid but Sterling is finding the leg, purposefully looking for it. The second one I'd say is "stonewall" nothing. Not every contact is a foul. I do feel passionate about it as I feel the joy of football is sucked out by cheating, feigning, diving and indeed the rewarding of penalties for situations like yesterdays. Anywhere else on the pitch people would laugh and say it is ridiculous to go down under barely no contact yet in the box it is justified....

And of course there is the issue of pushing, shoving, blocking and grabbing in the box with fee kicks and corners. If the same amount of contact would be enough to reward penalties we would have one every time.

I don’t think we differ in our opinions, my comment was in response to whether, in context, the referee was correct in giving those decisions, which I think he was.

More generally speaking I agree entirely with your sentiments. Football has become a pantomime, which I hate. I could bang on for hours about it including my pet hate of commentators saying “He had the right to go down” which drives me nuts. A prime example of the absence of common sense and the pantomime was Soucek’s now rescinded red card at the weekend (although I felt that was karma for Bentekes joke double yellow against West Ham).

It’s too far gone now but I’d love to see it stamped out of the game.
