This might be a better table 5yr net expenditure Brighton nearly £200m Palace £53m

How are we 990 thou in the green on that one, when we spent 16 odd mill on Eze this year and didn't sell anyone?

I think you should take these numbers with a pinch of salt because often clubs keep the deal amount secret. However in general terms I think it is fair to say that Brighton have spent a lot more money than us.

A pity we signed Batshuayi on loan rather than Ross Barkley. He's the sort of dynamic midfield player we need. Or Loftus-Cheek again. Perhaps Frank Lampard might be persuaded to let one of these go, but it won't be until the summer.

Conor Gallagher might be a better long term solution. Barkley is injury prone and L-C doesn't seem to be the player he was before his serious injury. I do wonder to what extent, psychologically, players who've had bad injuries hold back a bit in games for fear of another bad injury.

We were close to getting Gallagher until we found out Bats was also available. This was seen as the better option at the time but now appears like the wrong one. Just glad there's no obligation to buy Batshuayi... that would have been real bad business.

If we send Bats back at the end of the season don't expect Chelsea to do us any favours in the future. They are hoping they have got rid and as Bats hasn't been given an extended run in the team may think we have not handled him well.

WBA look odds on for relegation, so Gallagher will be back at Chelsea. A loan to buy might be an option?
