I'm a nosey bugger Long story but essentially came out of the city bank work in my forties and redundancy. Took a hire boat holiday on the Llangollen canal with new wife and family (Badger11 is my younger brother). Loved it so moved up to the midlands where the canals are not as crowded. London is full of old wrecks bought by people who cannot get on the housing ladder and is not a true representation of the boating life any more than being a traveller is to being a caravanner. Moving onboard requires a lot of planning and I started with a small 35ft boat at first just for leisure and then 10 years later bought a 58ft boat to live on and got out of property completely (I do own the boat outright though) There are many rules and regulations as well as costs involved so it is not cheap but more of an alternative lifestyle. I have lived aboard for over 7 years now and during the summer months we cruise around the system and during the winter we are moored up in a marina so we have all facilities like electric and water to our pontoon. If you can cope with emptying a poo filled cassette or pumpout tank etc and are reasonably handy at DIY then it can be really good and fun. Liken it to caravanning on water. In Short if you love nature and the outdoors peace and quiet then its great but you are often away from the hustle and bustle of town life and those amenities if that is your thing. You can use old sky boxes for freesat.

In modern day this is what catchup/vod is for don't understand wanting to record it brings up memories of vhs.

I don't have an external aerial, therefore Freeview isn't really an option. 2. I also don't have an old Sky box so that rules that possibility out, too. And I may want to watch some programmes after they drop off from catch up. See, I have done my research. And for me, Freesat is the logical way to go, especially as the box pays for itself after about 3-4 months compared with what I was paying Sky. Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

1. I don't have an external aerial, therefore Freeview isn't really an option.

2. I also don't have an old Sky box so that rules that possibility out, too. Do people really have old Sky boxes just lying around?

3. I like to record stuff. It's convenient for me. And there are one or two programmes that don't make it to catch up. And I may want to watch some programmes after they drop off from catch up.

See, I have done my research. And for me, Freesat is the logical way to go, especially as the box pays for itself after about 3-4 months compared with what I was paying Sky.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham
