I used to play these when I was a kid - commodore 64 for the older Holers out there and stumbled across a free demo of a 2021 manager game earlier - Football manager 2021. It's nuts how the games are now. I remember playing Championship manager back in 2000/01 and a game on the Playstation - LMA manager. They were a lot more advanced than the CBM 64 ones but this latest is pretty nuts. Press conferences, dresssing room talks - pre match, post match, transfer negotiations, tactics to the nth degree. It's a ball of confusion. I remember just wanting to put out the lineup, give the tactics and play the match. There's a lot more to it now. I can see why people lose their lives over these games. It is really advanced and detailed - the inbox is pinging all the time but with so much detail I dunno how people find the time to play it. Man is the most insane species. You get used to it. There are good tactics for each side. I'm on FM20 which was free - so good value. I enjoyed 12,16 and 18,plus basically all the early ones you speak of. The first was Football Manager on the Spectrum 48k. It did used to recreate the goals (one animation). You could choose a team colour, and the player ratings were 1-9. You could also press 'break' enter 'let m=99000000' and you had unlimited money. Don't ever use the game editor. You don't need it. You will challenge for the title within about two or three seasons without it. A full pre-season and a few matches and you will get used to it. Palace need a dm and a counter style away, be more attacking at home. You can probably qualify for Europe even with our squad. Gradually get rid of all the old duffers and replace with 'wonderkids'. Check out the Brazilian, Argentinian, Uruguayan and Mexican youngsters. I finished 2nd with our squad, plus Morelos who I bought for around 20mil plus add ons in my first FM20 season and actually won Carabao Cup. Red and Blue Army!
