This thread just shows what a bad plan taking the knee was. The abuse following penalties In euros and Wembley break in and booing national anthems shows over 30 years other than players salaries and costs to fans, little has changed. As another non-Twitter user, I agree with you on all this

I watched an Asian fellah on Apollo last night. Very funny. But if he had been white he would have been headlines on BBC and banned from comedy. This country needs to drop this whole racist thing and let it wash away naturally.

The whole incident after pens has shown there is still an issue of racism in this country. It wasn’t just online but also in the stadium.

The topic has bought out the worst in both sides - left & right - both on this thread and society. Politics in sport had car crash written all over it and persisting with ‘the knee’ has magnified what was basically a non existent problem into something which now may actually be a problem. The FA & players are too dim to see what damage and friction this is causing. It will keep snowballing the longer it goes on. It’s put us back 20 years. The Tokyo Olympics have got it right, and I’m sure all parties (left and right) now realise what a mistake this has been. Just as we’re getting over the divisions caused from Brexit, this just drives another wedge into society. Agree that the thread should be closed. Sick to death of this topic which I can’t escape.

This country needs to drop this whole racist thing and let it wash away naturally. I agree with you dreamwaver, it does appear to be a one way street and, like Spider, I am not a social media user. This whole frenzy around making a token gesture to oppose racism has gone too far and is now doing more harm than good. Wilf made a stand, but alone. The inevitable fallout from Sunday will lead to calls for action. But the political gesture of 'taking the knee' alone is not enough although the players resolve to continue it will strengthen. The yobs who invaded Wembley and the idiots who hide behind social media need to be identified and punished. The vast majority in this country are very tolerant towards each other as is evident from the support we give to footballers of all nationalities and colour.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Since this thread has descended into little more than a personal slanging match for certain posters, it will now be locked whilst things calm down. I am sorry that this will prevent reasonable posters from genuine debate.

Trust me they see it, and are continuing regardless - take from that what you will.
