The home office is a large established organisation , it will have a well developed HR policy and performance management procedure. The Conservatives have been in power fo r10 years if they seriously have no way of holding Senior Civil servants to account other than shouting at them we truly are *!*Qed .
The summary of the report says that 'The Civil Service itself needs to reflect on its role during this period. The Home Office was not as flexible as it could have been in responding to the Home Secretary’s requests and direction' it also says 'The definition of
bullying adopted by the Civil Service accepts that legitimate, reasonable and constructive criticism of a worker’s performance will not amount to bullying'.
Finally 'My advice is that the Home Secretary has not consistently met the high standards required by the Ministerial Code of treating her civil servants with consideration and respect. Her approach on occasions has amounted to behaviour that can be described as bullying in terms of the impact felt by individuals'
So fair enough there might be some reason to her actions there is also scope to give criticism and manage performance, but no justification of the un reasonable action she took and that she didn't meet the standards required of a minister. Being that she has already had to resign once for failing the ministerial code it seems fair to say she should have made herself aware of the standards she was expected to keep.

When I started to read this thread I thought it would go down the route of people believing unbelievable things to support their political viewpoint.
So for the sake of fairness ,I've spent the last month arguing with a friend of 15 years who has a well paid professional job that Jeremy Corbyn is not the greatest leader of Labour party. Pointing out to him that he lost a referendum when most of his party membership supported remain , that he went onto lose two general elections and most of his traditional support I was told that Corbyn was in fact very popular and was robbed and misrepresented by the right wing media.
We will continue to have rubbish politicians while we don't hold them accountable for their behaviors and results of their actions

One supporter of hacking argued that without it "you will do away with the courage and pluck of the game, and I will be bound to bring over a lot of Frenchmen who would beat you with a week's practice -Blackheath secretary at first meeting of the F.A

I think I previously said that Patel should not have behaved the way she did my point in posting the link was that it supports the idea that the HO seniors were not supporting her reforms.

I agree the Tories should have done something about this decades ago that speaks to the success of the CS in blocking reforms Mrs thatcher wanted to make changes.

Patel maybe damaged goods she maybe a lousy HS but the point still remains the HO is incredibly inefficient just looks at the multiple critical reports there have been over the decades. It needs to be reformed and to to be accountable to the government if the government's policies are wrong that is not their problem and the electorate will pass judgement on that at the next election..

The HO is too large a department, covering to many different responsibilities. Funnily enough the rank and file staff I know feel PP is a very good HS. Many incumbents, over the years, have said the department is not fit for purpose but have done nothing about it, perhaps PP is correct in her thinking but may have overstepped the mark, although those same senior managers wouldn’t think twice about dealing with their staff in a similar manner
