Optician informed me apparently about 5% of people cannot get on with varifocals. I tried them for a month on free trial and could not adjust, so returned to my original two pairs. In my own case I suspect part of my trouble was that I've incurred labyrinthitis three times (inner ear infection causing dizziness, nausea and balance problems)resulting in total deafness on one side. Occasionally has it's advantages when I want to cock-a-deaf-un.
