I have done but it is a slightly different set of circumstances, given how my family is structured. Which also means I avoid many of the usual pitfalls associated with owning a home abroad in that there are no legal issues over ownership and so on. But I want to die with warm bones. I truly do. I adore hot weather and the thought of being old and cold is not one I can even contemplate. Not sure how I would feel if it was a totally 'foreign' experience. I know plenty of people who have property abroad but for me I think the question has to be if you want to grow elderly there? Die abroad? Again because I have family connections, when I go down to Croatia I am entering a world that is not that much different to here in the UK. Weddings, christenings, funerals, family dinners. Both for the good and the bad. But it gives me a grounding that I suspect many ex-pats do not have. I think that aspect is important. I actually have real 'roots' down there. Not sure how I would feel if it was just a holiday home. My dear wife and I had the pleasure of visiting the delightful Croatian island of Brac several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the island.I look back on that holiday with great affection. We have not considered purchasing a property in Croatia but have done in respect of mainland Spain and the islands. My wife, however is a person who seeks to travel to various parts of the globe and be pampered in salubrious establishments! Where do you get these quaint ideas from? As a frequent visitor to Spain it has never occurred to me to transcribe the graffiti into Google Translate to see what they meant, or are you saying that you are a fluent Catalan speaker. jesus, i apologise for expressing an opinion on this discussion board. I love England and it will always be my home, but I can’t wait to live somewhere warmer. I did live in Spain and I loved it, I had an apartment near the beach. I work for an international company and my role is now in the UK. The reason I went to Spain was I thought “if I don’t like it, I can come back in an hour or two”. Being home, you have your comforts and there are things I miss. But the pro’s outweigh the cons. The world is a massive place and I want to see as much of it as possible. Our passport is a gateway to almost every county, why not try and see as much as you can. Why limit yourself to spending 95% of your life in the same country. One of the few benefits of Covid is home working. You will soon be able to work for a company from another country from the comfort of a nice balcony in the sun. No more being tied to your workplace area code. Obviously, ppl will suit different places but I struggle to understand why some ppl would prefer to live in south norwood in the winter vs a place in the sun (if you had the financial choice). *Unless there was a close family connection which made it difficult to leave. Let me hear the arguments fore, perhaps I can be persuaded?

I would be off like a shot if I could, either moving to somewhere warmer permanently or just to overwinter but I have an autistic son with learning difficulties and life would be too difficult for him in a foreign country once I've gone

I spent a month in Tenerife got bored and was glad to come home at the end. I realised I missed my friends and London. I love going to museums, gallery's, restaurants, historic places of interest etc. There are so many interesting countries, cultures and places to see so when I retired I decided to travel. The virus has put paid to that this year apart from one trip to Poland. Maybe when I am older I will find a place in the sun but for now have passport will travel (when allowed).
