Drink culture at work is one of many 'enablers'. If you don't go for liveners after work, you are pushed down the pecking order for a salary increase/promotion.

Peer pressure in society also payed a part in the past. (1970's) My Grandmother used to have breakfast of a few sherry's, whilst preparing the Sunday Roast. That was a society habit of "Well-to-do"

I've lost far more than I've gained, through drinking.

Addictive behaviour can be inherited, or learnt. Sometimes it's choice, other times it's difficult to avoid.

My mother (77) is addicted to her mobile phone. She would rather text, that engage with people around her. Conversations frequently begin with , "ooh, Sandra's just texted me to say how 5hlt her husband is. I'll just text her back".

My thoughts are : "You know what ? You just fck-orf and text your friends and I'll go and spend time with people who appreciate actually seeing me"
