So we are told we can’t go to theatres, sporting events many of which are outdoors but we have to accept their mass gatherings because it is their culture. After the mass gathering presumably many then go out and about, possibly spreading Covid. Why should they be treated differently? Surely discrimination is it not? I concur!

If you are wearing clothing head to foot all the time I expect you don't get much sun on you hence vitamin D deficiency.

Adil Ray explained it's a cultural thing within his Muslim demographic and the family includes friends and neighbours. Also the medical advice was mostly in English which huge numbers of the BAME community apparently do not understand. Eid celebrations are important and crowds are to be expected etc etc Make of it what you will So if they don’t speak English they have made no attempt to integrate?

Presumably whatever news outlets are available at least mentioned the situation and anyone in a country which was suddenly shut down for four months would at least try to find out what was happening.

But in defence of Muslims, they tend not to shove their old people into homes the first chance they get hence the greater predominance of multi-generational households and thus the increased risk of spreading Covid. I also wonder, and this includes other demographics as well, if greater risk of diabetes might also emerge as a risk factor?

Multiple generations in the same house lead to it spreading. Advice was given in all languages, but if you are less engaged with the main stream then maybe you were less likely to pick up on good information. Although, I find that hard to believe. Mosques have excellent support networks. Cultural shame might have played a part. Peer pressure could be stronger in those communities. Cardiovascular diseases are more prevalent in asian people. The impact of COVID-19 cant be proven, yet, but it is pretty likely to have a bigger effect. Basically, it's a perfect storm and not really the governments fault. Also, speaking to a care home owner at the weekend. Many families cant be bothered to look after their elderly relatives so chuck loads of money at a business to do it for them. When COVID-19 was rampant in nursing homes many of these people could have taken loved ones out, especially if they were working on furlough, but couldnt be bothered.

Just been reading that the 2nd spike in Spain and possibly other countries is due to migrant farm workers. They have to move from farm to farm region to region to earn their living and they are not looked after by the farmers. Sorry wrong thread I will repost. Edited by Badger11 (21 Aug 2020 6.52am)
