How about this for when football returns (if there are games at Selhurst): life-sized cut-outs are placed at each seat, and - here’s the real innovation - iPads fitted to their ‘heads’? Each real fan - ticket/ST holder - watching from home is connected to the iPad fitted to their character, and their cheers, exclamations, chants broadcast vivas that device (and their home device, of course) into the ground from their seat (block W in the Arthur, in my case).
There’d be a weird atmosphere, but at least I’d get to be able to see everything without my friend jumping up from the row in front of me all the time.
It would cost, of course. A sell-out crowd of iPads, about £13 million.....

Friend! Swap seats when back and show him what it's like. Lucky in the arthur block I'm in no one sits down all game.

It’s not so much that he stands up, but that he is a big man, and I am not....

Oh, and I haven’t taken account of the feedback that’s bound to be a problem with this kind of arrangement.

Fans sitting like statues and not making a noise, big deal they've been doing that at Old Trafford and the Emirates for years.
