I took part in the consultation and I am glad they reached that decision. If anyone objects they are free to register their intentions not to donate. Many organs are lost because a grief stricken family is unable to make a decision at that time. Later when they have thought it through well it's too late. Even if a person had not registered their objection the family can still object e.g. "my father forgot to register and never would have consented" in these cases donation will almost certainly not happen. However by having the default as agreeing to donation it is a nudge to the family at a very difficult time. Maybe one day we will be able to grow organs from stem cells but until then this is probably the best we can do with an imperfect process.
