I only judge stuff by my own standard of if I like it or not. No musical snobbery.
Nice and Sleazy was a good tune but the album generally was a mess. I never listen to it anymore and that is my yardstick.
That said, their first two albums are among the best stuff produced during the 'punk' era in terms of sound. but they never had the sustained song writing ability of someone like Elvis Costello who sounds better with time.

I never thought of them as a punk band they just jumped on the bandwagon I think they were better than most of the punk bands who thought sticking safety pins spitting and playing badly was enough. It makes me laugh that punk was allegedly a revolt against the bloated big stadium dinosaur bands and today 40 years later those dinosaur bands are still playing in those big stadiums. I never thought of them as a punk band they just jumped on the bandwagon I think they were better than most of the punk bands who thought sticking safety pins spitting and playing badly was enough.

It makes me laugh that punk was allegedly a revolt against the bloated big stadium dinosaur bands and today 40 years later those dinosaur bands are still playing in those big stadiums. Form is temporary class is permanent.

The Sex Pistols were a construct who did one proper album. The Stranglers were just a good pub band.
