The whole game is on Sky Sports right now but we are 3-0 down after 75 minutes. If you switch on now you might just see something amazing.

I recall that, after we'd equalised, Damo had another long-range shot, that didn't miss by that much. He talked afterwards of his frustration, saying that he should have scored (again) and we should have won.

This game is one of our best ever. What I mean is, it is a perfect portrait of what Palace are like as a team not just in 1989 but a game that sums up our modern personality as a club.

It was only a couple of weeks after losing 9-0 at Anfield and you can see why we struggled there. The defence is all over the place. Geoff Thomas regularly had to wade in and bail out the defence, like he does in this game. Poor Perry Suckling is clearly still haunted by the Liverpool game and not long after this game we broke the transfer record for a goalkeeper to buy Nigel Martyn.

Up front Palace were so classy. The Wright Bright partnership was already well established but you can see here how hungry they both were.
The first division hadn't seen the likes of Palace for nearly a decade and supporters of the big clubs s******ed at the very sound of our name. Wright and Bright fought week in and week out to change that and by the end of that season the big boys weren't s******ing anymore.

For those not old enough, you had to take a lot of stick for being Palace at this time. The 9-nil really hurt but we knew we were good and this game against Millwall was a great showcase for what we were about.

Whoops! Wrong thread. The above is about a different game. This game is wonderful too though!

So next to me is a bloke with his family. Never seen the guy before. Didn’t sing or shout anything during the game so was pretty suspicious already.
Anyway, Palace score our first and he politely claps, the we get a second and the stand erupts, I then lean over and politely ask if he was a a Liverpool fan, at this point he looks a bit nervous but says he doesn’t really support any team but his dad did used to take him to watch Liverpool as a kid. Few minutes later we equalise, the place goes f@cking mad and I lean over and tell him it’s a shame his dad never took him to Palace

One of my top three games ever.
