I'm not sure it was all that regularly. Since England won the World Cup, there have only been 4 seasons where Palace and Orient were in the same division. Plus 4 cup ties in that time - a total of 7 seasons where the two clubs have met. Okay then mr picky, we’ll say regular from about 1978 to about 1991, because I went to Orient away 5 times in that period, plus the home games, that’s fairly regular

Possibly before your time but Dave Groombridge who shared goalkeeping duties with Ron George was a local lad to me and often joined in games at Thornton Heath Rec. He used to live in Strathyre Avenue Norbury.

Did he play for local team/school

Palace v Orient (since WW2) Interesting. A few years back I found a spread sheet on the web which detailed by year and then by division the 92 clubs. Out of interest I wanted to compare how many years Palace were in each division versus Charlton and Millwall e.g. 13 years in the top flight 40 years in 2nd tier and so on. I don't remember the exact numbers but at the time Palace and Charlton were almost identical with Charlton having been in the top flight more years than us (we must have overtaken them now). Anyway I guess this is how rivalry starts as outside of the top division all 3 clubs seems to be have a similar record over 100 years which meant playing each other more often than not.

They have no love for the Vermin at the Amex either so always had a soft spot for the O's I have a mate who's season ticket holder & goes from Littlehampton for most home games, although work sometimes gets in the way he does his best to go as much as poss.
