Charlton "there but for the grace of god go I"

I feel sorry for Charlton fans even though they are rivals. As I predicted they are now in big trouble and not just relegation. They were bought by a consortium backed by a mega bucks Arab who last night walked away.

It's a long sorry tale and it's still not clear who is at fault. The bottom line is the consortium has no money and may go bust or the ownership may revert back to the hated Belgium.

This stinks of Michael Knightly the guy who tried to buy Manchester United but never had the money. How any of the people involved in this passed a fit and proper test is beyond me. The majority shareholder failed to prove he had the money and the Chairmen and face of the club appears to have a dodgy track record of failed businesses and now they are blaming each other.

As for the Belgium seller either he didn't do his due diligence properly or he is playing a long game where he gets it all back minus the debt.

Let's hope Steve Parish does a better job for us finding new owners.

They are in trouble off and on the pitch.

When the takeover happened it was implied they had been bought by mega wealthy Arabs. However on their fans forum a row has broken out about the ownership and what they do own.

It would appear that the new (British) Chairmen has a history of running small business' into the ground. So with a poor track record why would the real owners appoint him, unless of course he is the real owner and borrowed the money.

Charlton didn't spend any money during the January transfer window and the biggest row of all is about what the new owners own.

Some are saying they own all the club assets others point to Companies House suggest they have an option to buy or a leasehold on the ground which begs the question if they have rich owners why have they not completed the purchase and spent money on players.

Anyway if you want a laugh go to the Intothevalley forum.

Much as I enjoy reading of their misery and confusion that could be us if the Americans sell to the wrong owners.

Found this regarding the Clowns

15 years on, my detestation of Charlton is starting to fade, but I will never forgive their rejoicing at our relegation at their ground in 2005. But I suppose they have some decent supporters, and yes, I do feel sorry for them. I also regret any ancient club disappearing into a black hole.

So a couple of days ago Tahoon Nimer the majority shareholder in ESI the company that owns? Charlton said he had walked away and has made various accusations against the Chairman and minority shareholder Matt Southall.

Southall responded with counter claims and said that Nimer has gone.

Now Nimer is saying that is not true he will stay but that he will not put any money into the club until Southall has gone.

Who are they:

Tahoon Nimer is a Syrian who runs the office of one of the mega rich Arabs it was implied that they backed him when he bought the club.

Matt Southall is a consultant with rather a dubious track record of owning small companies which go bust.

Nimer says that when Southall took over the club he awarded himself a large consultancy fee, luxury cars and luxury flat all at Charlton’s expense and that is why he has pulled out.

Southall says that Nimer has not put a penny into the club and has not passed the fit and proper EFL test or provided evidence that he has the money.

The EFL are keeping stum but have confirmed that Charlton are under a transfer embargo due to the fit and proper test not being completed.

Who’s right?
God knows they both sound dodgy. Southall definitely does not have the money to run the club so will need to find finance not easy with the current economic crisis. It is not clear if Nimer has the money if he does why has he not provided evidence to the EFL?

What happens next?
ESI bought Charlton in name only for £1 the Belgium still owns the tangible assets like the Valley and the training ground. ESI has an obligation to buy that for £50m in the summer. It is not clear what happens if they don’t, will the Belgium force the issue or sit back and watch Charlton go under (new housing estate anyone?). Southall does not have enough money to keep the club running day to day so administration is a real possibility within the next 6 months.

As for Nimer he owns 67% of the club so why has he not called a board meeting and voted Southall and his chums out? Unless Southall is right and he has never paid for his shares?

This is going to run and run and quite frankly I don’t like the look of either of these two. Charlton fans deserve better and it could just as easily be Millwall or Palace it just shows that how many dodgy people there are in football.
