Earlier today I was booking my ticket for the Palace match at the Amex and it crossed my mind that, should the virus hit this country in a big way, by the time we get to the end of February, when the match is due to be played, there could be a ban on mass gatherings to stem the spread of the illness.

This would mean a cessation of football for a period until it is deemed that the threat is on the wane, with all sorts of implications for the game.

I'm not trying to pander to sensationalism, but allowing for the worst case scenario, and the the virus proving to be as nasty as it currently seems, it is a possibilty.

They could always play behind closed doors and stream the match.

Loss of revenue would be nasty, but possibly covered by insurance?

True. I suppose one of the benefits of having a sizeable proportion of the ground filled by season ticket holders is that the gate revenue is already in the bag.

I shall be on holiday in Asia in the next 5 weeks for about 1 month. At this stage I have no idea if we will be impacted nor I guess does my Tour operator.

Hopefully this is not as bad as SARS was.

Ban all orientals from football grounds.

Oh, wait, that'll mean Manure, Looserpool & other 'big' clubs wont have any fans in their grounds.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

BA suspends flights to China

[Link]

The number of infected people has now overtaken the SARS virus.

So far we are lucky in the country but there is a suspicion that the Chinese government is understating the numbers.

I'm not bothered about the money I have booked with a tour operator so will get a full refund if they cancel. I have been looking forward to it for months so will be gutted if it is called off.
