Probably not but I always thought ‘Billy Hunt’ by The Jam would be a great chant for him.

This type of transfer no longer seems to happen at Palace. I have no idea if Billy Sharp would work but the OP has a point. I can remember plenty of players from my youth that Palace signed as a short stop gap solution. There was a full back we signed from Plymouth (I think) he was a legend at their club and at the end of his career he got six months - 1 year with us in the top flight. Plymouth let him go as a thank you and for a while he did a decent job for us. Even teams like Liverpool and Man United would buy the occasional over the hill player as cover. We need young and up and coming players but I suspect there are plenty of old soldiers who could do a job for us in the lower leagues and would be happy to be on the bench just for the chance of a run-out in the PL. Anyway not to be sniffed at especially as we don't appear to be spending serious money.

I was in conversation with some gentleman on Tuesday afternoon and Billy Sharp was part of that chit-chat.
