Old cars take more concentration and skill to drive as they aren't fitted with all the modern gizmos and driving aids of a modern car but that doesn't make them rubbish to drive

The problem with the looks of modern cars, especially supercars is that they tend to look alike as all of them are designed by computer programmed with the same parameters

Brakes , suspension and steering are all far superior on modern cars ME. Reliability is worlds apart too. It's just progress.
The Triumph Dolly sprint was something i yearned for when i was younger. Then VW made the Golf GTi and the automotive landscape was changed forever. I still like the look of the sprint more than the Golf but the driving experience is leagues apart.
Now move on a few years and the 205 Gti moved things further on still, and so on until you get to now and the Fiesta Sti and mk7 Golf Gti have moved it further still.
I still love the look of the "Dolly" but it is definitely rubbish compared to the mk 1 GTI let alone todays cars. And thats just hot hatches and their ilk.

I had a few hot hatches back in the day including Mk1 and Mk2 Golf GTi and XR3i but my favourite for sheer driving fun was the Renault 5 Turbo

A bit of a handfull as i recall.
205 GTi for me. The 1.6 was less corrupted by power than the 1.9 so probably the purer drivers car.
Sat in one recently. Feck me it felt flimsy.
Must of been braver way back when.

Ah, but with the old cars at least you could open the bonnet if you had a problem and get it sorted yourself. Now everything needs a diagnostic computer.

Mind, those were the same days when the AA man on his motorcycle saluted every car with an AA badge on....
even at 60 mph on an A road!

Remember it well, and the AA phone boxes.
