I remember Wrighty diving theatrically at the end of that game with nobody near him in the penalty area comically shouting "ref!"

In a game against Brighton in the late eighties we were awarded four penalties and missed three of them!
(but still won).

A good nugget. What would we do without comic irony, eh?

Pemberton's penalty cleared the Holmesdale Terrace and fragments of the ball can still be seen in the wall in the Garden of Remembrance.

I remember Glenn Murray hitting one well wide vs Millwall about 8 years ago.

I recall this game!
Kelvin Morton was the referee.
Bright,Wright and Pemberton missed penalties.
I think one was awarded against Brighton defender Ian Chapman who in recent seasons managed Burgess Hill Town.
Chapman was, and might still be, the youngest player (16) to have played for Brighton's first team.

My brother was a local league referee at the time and was attending a course to promote to County level. Mr Morton was a guest, he had been criticised in the media for giving so many penalties in one game, so he showed the course clips of the penalties and challenged anyone to disagree with his decisions. Unanimously they all agreed that every penalty decision was correct

TBF to KM, I don't recall being surprised by any of the penalty awards from my vantage point on the Whitehorse. Maybe my opinion was tainted by the fact that we got four of 'em!
