I used to know a woman who was constantly getting signed off work for the slightest thing (an over amenable GP, obviously) and she was most indignant when her employers got (understandably) pissed off with her sh*t and quite rightly sacked her off.

She failed miserably at an industrial tribunal and quite right too. Piss taking lead swingers deserve no sympathy.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

My gf's sister took the day off because her cat was ill....perfectly normal behaviour!

I drove 80 miles to an appointment with the Managing Director of a key customer, I was accompanied by our National Sales Manager, who had travelled further. When we arrived, we were told the MD wouldn't be seeing us, as his cat was ill.

I was lost for words.

people who milk sickness leave should share their secrets, why do people spend their working lives getting f*cked over by c*nts and then look for scapegoats instead of blaming the c*nts that are f*cking them over, tssk

Some turn it into a fine art and manage to get time off for things that I find it hard to believe the rest of us would.

It was a terrible day for him because his dog ate his kid's homework too.

Shouldn’t we merge this with the Connor Wickham thread?

Whilst there is a right to reasonable time off for family emergencies there is no right for this to be paid. It is intended to provide enough time to make suitable arrangements NOT so that you can stay with the affected family member for a prolonged period.

Some employers have policies for bereavement leave that is often paid.

There is an argument to allow unpaid time off for the death of a beloved pet based upon specific circumstances. That would fall under the concept of being a good employer and caring for the welfare of employees. I would avoid giving a ‘right’ as it provides an opportunity for abuse.

women who find themselves pregnant. Drag out maternity leave for as long as legally permissible, on the understanding they are returning to work.

They go over their leave allowance, only then to inform the company they have decided not to return.

No doubt , then claiming benefits like Child Allowance.
